WordCampNYC 2009

WordCampNYC – Nov 14-15We've been keeping it pretty quiet so far, but with this latest announcement, it's time to start talking:

At present, I am leading up the interoperability & cross-platform efforts within web2project.

While this doesn't seem like much to many of our users - after all, we support Apache and Mysql very well - it fits with our vision of the system.  We want web2project to be the sort of tool where any organization can deploy it to start getting their project management operations straightened out.  Regardless, this announcement is not the point of this post.

As a result of some early successes, I have been invited by Microsoft to speak on their behalf at WordCampNYC 2009 next week.  Not surprisingly, my topic is PHP & Windows interoperability.  While this isn't going to be a huge howto session, I plan on touching on numerous topics surrounding getting them to play nice together, some of the options available, and dispelling a few myths.  Here's my synopsis:

Everyone knows Microsoft hates PHP. You know PHP on Windows is slow and buggy. You know PHP apps don't work with SQL Server. You know you can't do pretty URL's in IIS. But what if you're wrong? What if what you "know" isn't quite right? Come to this presentation to learn about what Microsoft is doing to build and grow the PHP community from someone on the front lines of compatibility and interoperability.

So come on out and join in the fun and chaos of WordCampNYC... or at least come by to say hello.
